In 1978, Ken Hitzig, our Chairman, had a vision. He wanted to establish a financial services business that would be responsive to the needs of small to medium-sized businesses living in change. There was a demand for a company that could focus on providing businesses with fast, flexible, reliable financing and cash flow solutions these companies needed to grow and succeed.
His vision was quickly realized and the company flourished, going public, and trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange as TSX:ACD. In 1992 it acquired two commercial finance companies of significant reputation, Montcap Financial Corp. in Montreal, Quebec and JTA Factors in Greenville, South Carolina. Over three decades later, Accord Financial continues to grow, offering seamless cross-border financing, credit guarantee and receivables management solutions across a wide range of industry sectors.
Ken has spent a lifetime in and around finance. On achieving a B. Comm. from McGill University, Ken went into the accounting world for a ‘big window’ insight into business. His move to working with leading finance companies provided the experience, insight and perspective that led to his founding of Accord Financial in 1978. His ability to do what’s best for the company – confronting adversity and making tough decisions – has helped to build Accord into one of North America’s most respected financial service companies. Ken served as president until 2009 and remains Chairman of the Board.
